It has been a long week of demo at Magnolia Moon. As with any project, there have been some ups and downs, and unexpected problems. Going into this, I knew the former tenants did some pretty shoddy work, but oh boy, did they really do some sketchy things. The weird, not-quite-complete "office" walls are down, the awkward brown sink in the store is out, and this really weird shower is gone! I mean, what is the deal with that nozzle?? And the knobs?
The shower. What to say. The floor underneath is a jack-hammered mess. The hot water heater is on top of the shower. So my plan to totally remove the walls where the shower was will not be happening, but that just means I have a new closet I never planned for.
The walls to the back office that I was going to keep for storage were torn down by the contractors, but that worked out for the best because it definitely looks way better without that office space.
The floors. The plan was to rip up the two different colors of laminate floor and the dirty carpet, and do stained concrete throughout. Turns out the last tenants super duper glued EVERYTHING to the floor, so there is massive amounts of glue and whatnot left on the floors. Today's dilemma. What was intended to be a more economical flooring choice is now turning into a much more expensive project. So we're probably changing up the flooring plan now. Oh the joys of reno.
